Mount Karmel School Empowering Lives Through Education

Welcome to Mount Karmel School, a beacon of hope nestled in the heart of the Kilimanjaro region, specifically in the village of Kighare. Established in 2016 by Margot Kuijsters, a compassionate nurse with a vision, Mount Karmel School is a testament to the transformative power of education in the lives of underprivileged children in Tanzania.

Our Mission - Providing a Better Future:
Mount Karmel School is not just a school; it's a journey that began with after-school activities in 2016 and has since blossomed into a sanctuary of learning. Our primary objective is to provide a better future for the children of Tanzania. We believe in the power of education to break the chains of poverty and offer opportunities that transcend generations.

Why We Exist - Breaking the Cycle of Poverty:
Margot's inspiration stems from witnessing illiteracy among patients at the Same District Hospital. Motivated by a desire to instill creativity and offer hope to families living in poverty, Mount Karmel School stands as a beacon of change. We are committed to breaking the cycle of poverty by providing an education that empowers and uplifts.

Our Founder, Margot Kuijsters:
Margot, a seasoned nurse, embarked on a mission beyond the walls of the Same District Hospital in Tanzania. Under the auspices of "The Catholic Diocese of Same," Margot passionately leads the development of Mount Karmel School, weaving a story of dedication and positive change.

Evolution Over the Years:
What started as after-school activities has grown into a comprehensive educational initiative. The journey includes the establishment of a library, an indoor play area, and the inception of a kindergarten. In 2022, Mount Karmel gained official recognition as Mount Karmel Pre- and Primary School, offering education in English and expanding its infrastructure to accommodate the growing number of eager minds.

Where We Are:
Located in the picturesque village of Kighare, our school serves not only the local community but also children from neighboring villages. We believe in extending the gift of quality education to every child, regardless of their background.

How We Operate - Community-Centric Approach:
Mount Karmel School operates under the guidance of dedicated local teachers, and our construction activities involve the community. Margot, alongside local assistants and parents, actively contributes to the sustainable development of the school and the surrounding area. By nurturing a community-centric approach, we ensure that every child receives not just an education but a foundation for a brighter future.
